Sally Lee Yohncke
September 7, 1932 – June 23, 2019
Yohncke, Sally Lee (nee Fisher) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23rd after living with Alzheimer’s for more than 20 years.
Beloved wife of the late John D. Yohncke; dear mother of the late Georgia ‘Gee Gee’ (Jim) Arnold; the late Yvonne (late Vincent) Glasgow; the late Faye Annette Yohncke; Penney (late David) Kols; Linda Yohncke (Billy); and, John Yohncke. Grandmother to Angela (Paul) Klemme; Terry (Kelly) Obermiller; James (Jaclyn) Glasgow; John (Amanda) Obermiller; and, Eva Yohncke. Beloved great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to many.
Sally was born in St. Louis to Howard and Sophronia Fisher, and grew up with a sister and two brothers who have preceded her in death: Betty James; Bob Fisher; and, Earl ‘Tito’ Fisher. As a young lady, she was a professional dancer, proficient in tap, jazz, and ballroom dancing. During the day, she worked as a telephone operator, but on weekend nights she was dancing with the big bands of her era.
Sally loved babies. Her heart was big, and always open to any child in need. Married to Johnny Yohncke in 1953, her home was a hubbub of children laughing and running around – her own, plus any other child who needed a place to stay for a few days.
Sally was a stay-at-home mother, and loving wife. In 2002, Sally lost her soulmate when her husband Johnny passed away (he was 16-years her senior). Sally was a beautiful soul with a huge heart and big smile which will be missed by all who knew her.
